The HLWG November General Meeting will take place Thursday afternoon November 16th at 1:00 PM. We hope you will join us as the HLWG Board will report on our current financial health, updates to our calendar and information regarding Membership Renewal in January.
Following this short business meeting, we are pleased to host award-winning Low country based author Rebecca Dwight Bruff.
Ms. Bruff will discuss her debut book Trouble the Water based in Beaufort, SC where she tells the untold story of Robert Smalls who was born into slavery with dreams of freedom for himself and his family. Early on May 13th, 1862, Robert Smalls seized the Confederate ship "Planter" from its wharf in Charleston and sailed out to sea through the Sumter Channel delivering the ship to the Federal Fleet. He eventually became an American politician, publisher, and businessman and served in the US Navy. The state of SC celebrates "Robert Smalls Day" every May 13th.
